about FOOP

The Friends of Onkaparinga Park (FOOP) was formed in 1986 and provides assistance to the Department for Environment and Water in both the Onkaparinga River National Park and the Onkaparinga River Recreation Park. These activities enable members to be a part of programs to enhance, repair and maintain the Onkaparinga River National and Recreation Parks.

In 1990, FOOP were awarded the Greening of Adelaide recognition award for their revegetation work, in 1992 were named the most outstanding Friends Group of the Year, and in 1997 were also awarded Friends Group of the Decade award. Since then, FOOP has been the recipient of many other awards including a Waterwatch Award in 2003 for water testing in the Onkaparinga River National Park.

The Friends of Onkaparinga Park contributed to South Australia’s National Parks Centenary Year in 1991 by raising funds to build a footbridge over the Onkaparinga River at Old Noarlunga. The footbridge was completed and officially opened in 1994.
